Anyway, Aburiya is where I discovered wagyu heaven! Succulent, almost melt-in-your-mouth grilled cubes (ribeye) and slices of beef (jo-karubi or prime short rib), every bite bursting with aromatic goodness. It was soo divine we ordered another plate of choice ribeye cubes. It was especially good with a tiny dab of coarse salt crystals. (Sorry but the pictures hardly do justice to the food!)
We also had regular beef with foie gras - very generous portions of foie gras, I must say. You put the whole container to sizzle on the grill, allowing the beef and liver to cook in their own fat).
Last came some tare-marinated pork slices (unfortunately, a wallflower after you've had the wagyu). The spinach salad was also delicious, with its tangy, soy-based dressing. Oh we also had onigiri. Drizzle on some soy and toast them til crispy on the outside - a wonderful accompaniment to the meat.
To top it off, Aburiya has a lovely, casual atmosphere and service staff are prompt, knowledgeable and friendly. You can dine indoors or al fresco. Another sign of an authentic place - most of the clientele there were Japanese.
We would definitely go back again. Just for the wagyu!

Oh yeah, the foie gras with tare sauce is excellent with rice! Felt the wagyu a bit expensive but shiok.

ReplyDeleteYes, the wagyu is a bit expensive (good things usually are) but so worth the "oh-my-god" burst of sensation in your mouth!
