Warong Sudi Mampir: Satay!

Satay (Warong Sudi Mampir), originally uploaded by Camemberu.
Oh, finally, satay heaven! Well-marinated yet reasonably tender chunks of meat paired with delicious, chunky peanut sauce. I'm glad the meat is in visible chunks, not mashed or minced. The beef is best - beautifully charred, seductively glistening and heady with flavour. We tried mutton, beef and chicken...alas, they had run out of babat (tripe)! Chicken a little dry and mutton a bit tough (some pieces only). The sauce, what a generous portion they gave for my measly 15 sticks. Oh my, I could eat the peanut sauce with bread/noodles/anything - I regret not getting some ketupat to go with it!

Despite it being a weekend, I did not have to wait long. But there were no seats at the food centre so we had it as takeaway. I can imagine how much more tasty it would be hot and freshly grilled on the spot.

This is a Makansutra legend that deserves its title (many of the others don't). But I say this because many satay places in Singapore are quite mediocre/bad. This one I would come back to again. Just remember that they are only open from 10am-5pm every day and closed Wed & Thurs.

  4. After seeing your 'makan legend' stamp of approval for this satay stall, I decided to try it today. Saw a notice there - they will be closed from 26 nov to 11 dec 2008. Ended up eating Yong Li Kway Chap instead. Cheap and ok, not great though.
