Rojak from Blk 59 Marine Terrace

Rojak, originally uploaded by Camemberu.

This is one rojak that I prefer over the over-hyped Lau Hong Ser at Dunman Road Food Centre. A beautiful mix of crunchy, sweet, savoury, spicy and sour that just sends your saliva glands into overdrive! The flavours are all strong, thanks to the generous prawn paste/belachan sauce and fresh ingredients. Best of all, it's just in my neighbourhood!

Slices of fresh green apple and mango lend an extra fruity tang to this dish. The pineapple pieces are thick and sweet. Crushed peanuts liberally sprinkled add nutty crunch and fragrance to this tasty dish. Bewarned if you cannot take spicy food though...as this rojak packs a punch in that department. You will soon be gulping air if water isn't nearby. And then you'll want more of this addictive rojak! At least I do. :)

The stall is just a simple little outfit ensconced within the drinks area. The son who speaks English helps out his Mandarin-speaking mom.

Block 59 Marine Terrace coffeeshop
(the one near the Neighbourhood Police Centre)
Open: about 12.30pm til late (about 10pm)

UPDATE 2008: The son has taken over but his rojak is not as well-made. The mom's starting up at another location. Will find out where soon.
