Ocean Restaurant

Oyster Omelette, originally uploaded by Camemberu.

After our food trail in Japan, it's now back to regular local food. Well, another trip actually, this time back to Malaysia to see the folks. Dinner at one of Dad's favourite Chinese restaurants - Ocean, which has been around for more than 20 years (I still remember going there as a kid).

We had a starter of oyster omelette, quite nicely done. Even hubby (who doesn't like this dish in Singapore) enjoyed it a fair bit, to my surprise.

Kung Pao Chicken, originally uploaded by Camemberu.

Chicken stir-fried with dried chili, another favourite of the Chinese table. I love it when the chicken pieces are fried to a crisp death before being doused by the sweet aromatic sauce.

Some healthy fish...well, not so healthy since it's also fried. Richly flavoured with onions, ginger and spring onions.

This is something we never tried here yet. Some four types of vegetables (eggplant, long beans, okra and I forget what else) stir-fried in a spicy way with lots of ikan bilis and sliced chili - it was very delicious!

Braised Claypot Tofu, originally uploaded by Camemberu.

Finally something with tofu (Nadine's favourite). This was quite plain but comforting. It served as a nice buffer against the other rich and spicy dishes. Decent portion of vegetables too (sorry, pic shows this half-eaten).

The best thing about this place is - apart from reasonably well-executed dishes, it is very affordable. All these (plus pot of Chinese tea, pickles and towels) only came up to RM52 (S$22.70 or US$13). Fed four adults and a baby reall well!
