Bugis Junction has also seen a bit of a reshuffle in its second floor dining outlets. Casual Japanese eatery Ministry of Food (MOF) My Izakaya has taken over Seoul Garden (which took over Billy Bomber's which moved to the basement).
Hubby and I have tried the Marina Square branch twice - first time great, second time disappointing. Well, one thing we remembered as good was their tofu avocado salad. We decided to try the wasabi seafood - also nice! There were actually little bits of scallop in it, if I'm not mistaken. Dressing on the side so you can mix in as little or as much as you like.
The salmon sashimi comes on a bed of shaved ice to keep it cool. Bit of a nice touch - and trust me, I've been served WARM raw salmon before elsewhere (oh what a hotbed of bacterial activity it must be!)
Hubby wanted some soupy ramen for a change. The fried chicken pieces were decent, the ramen a little (oddly) on the sweet side - I'm so much more used to ramen excessively being more salty than anything. Ah well, we weren't expecting Kyushu Jyangara standards here.
Huge bowl of soba but the stock was one-dimensional in flavour - not enough of an umami kick. Vegetable tempura so-so, slightly greasy. But paired well with the soupy noodles.
Not your most authentic or finest quality Japanese dining but it's OK if you're not fussy. They've got quite a lot of desserts too, but I haven't tried them.

Two outlets (Marina Square and Bugis Junction) and a takeaway counter at Raffles City basement
I'm reading thro your ramen tag looking for the next ramen place to go. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway been to MOF Bugis and my sentiments are the same, pretty decent food. In fact they were GOOD when compared to a forgettable and expensive meal we had at Sun with Moon Central a few days before.
I like MOF's business concept too, esp the charity part.
Oh, I didn't know MOF did charity!
ReplyDeleteAh I also heard not-so-good things about Sun with Moon Central. Seems the Chijmes outlet is better.
