Chey Sua Carrot Cake
Chey Sua Carrot Cake is another legendary hawker. That much I knew, but I had no idea the dish served here is pancake-like! Unlike the usual scattered ensemble, the pieces of radish cake are held together by a thick base of almost hard, crispy egg (and some flour, no doubt). The juxtaposition of hard and soft textures make this quite unusual. And it's spicy all right. This is a S$2 portion.
Business is very good at this stall. When I was there, there wasn't much of a queue, but I still had to wait about 20 minutes or more for my order to arrive. Make sure you go before 1pm as they pack up and close the stall for the day.

Wow, tks for sharing all these good food from Toa Payoh.
ReplyDeleteWow, they must be good if the store is packed by 1pm! :)
ReplyDeleteMany years ago, I remember kicking myself for calling one of the ladies "Auntie", effect was a half hour wait :( Guys, you've been warned :)
ReplyDeleteSIG: You're welcome! :)
ReplyDeleteLFB: Yeah, good life huh? Most hawkers have to work twice as long.
Anon: Hmm, how many years ago was that? I think even if you called her "Princess", you'd still have to wait. They really have a lot of orders!
Its abt 8 years ago, I think. Men does not have a good memory, unlike women, haha. Anyway my wife scolded me saying that the one who served me was still unmarried....and my earlier visit before my incident only took us, 10 mins of waiting.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the best carrot cake in singapore. Worth while to try! No regrets...
ReplyDeleteI have been eating this since I was a small kid(back then was the lady's mother), now I'm nearing 40.
ReplyDeleteBack in the old days, there were many stalls selling the same presentation as Chey Sua carrot cake, remember tanglin hawker center and Toa Payoh Central Hawker center??
I dunno why all new entrants selling carrot cake just don't have the patience to fry like the lady, preferring the do the messy ensemble.
Don't be mistaken by the absence of a q, though they don't have a q, the wait is very long esp weekends, be prepared to wait beyond 30 mins for your order as she does not compromise on her cooking. This is still the best carrot cake around. Difference between them and stall 26 is that the carrot cake from chey suah is self made, whereas stall 26 its from supplier, more run of the mill stuff.
do you know what time they start thier business? u guys try standing infront of the fire for a few hours, so closing at 1pm is not good life!
