Science.09 Carnival at Marina Square
This year's science month festival (14 Aug - end Sept) looks quite interesting.
It's called "science.09" and will kick off with X-periment!, a three-day science carnival at Marina Square Central Atrium running from 14-16 August 2009. There's lots of hands-on demos and science experiments.
Highlights at X-periment! include special performances by Dr Bunhead, a "stunt scientist" from the UK. This guy shows you experiments with fire and explosives - all the fun stuff you were usually not allowed as a kid. The potato bazooka looks scary. It's a blast but I'm not eating those chips!
The theme for science.09 is "Ask Why". It's all about the spirit of inquisitiveness, which has led to so many discoveries. So to encourage that spark, science.09 is inviting your science questions. You might win an Apple 16GB iPod Touch! But I'm eyeing the second prize - a full year's family membership to the Science Centre and OmniTheatre!
The more questions you ask, the higher your chances of winning. You can do this via
1. The website: Submit your questions along with your full name and email on the science.09 website (www.sciencemonth.org.sg)
2. Or Twitter: To submit questions and qualify for the contest via Twitter:
a. Follow @ProfWhy, the science.09’s mascot Professor Why
b. Tweet your questions to @ProfWhy
Every Monday, Professor Why will also respond to a selection of the previous week’s questions. Check the science.09 website for answers!
The contest begins Tuesday, 11 August 2009 and ends midnight (Singapore time) on Friday, 4 September 2009. More details here.
