Pullman Bunker Bay Resort at Margaret River, Western Australia
Sunrise at the secluded Bunker Bay (and this is just a regular iPhone shot, as is).
Now which lucky resort gets to be nestled right next to this beautiful sandy vista in the Margaret River region?
The five-star Pullman Bunker Bay Resort!
The outdoor heated infinity pool at the resort is a great place to watch sunrises and sunsets too.
Here's sunset at the beach. Such therapeutic colours.
I love the gentle pink dusk that's such a contrast to the bright tropical sunsets that we are so used to.
There are 150 bungalow-style villas, available in studio, 1-, 2-or 3-bedroom configurations. High vaulted ceilings feature in many of these, creating a grand sense of space and airiness.
Each villa comes equipped with a modern kitchenette...so you can whip up something really stunning from the phenomenal produce they have in the Margaret River region.
My villa was positively a dream. Beautiful Jarrah wood flooring and limestone walls add contrasting texture and colours, while warm lighting ties everything together.
The King size bed - I so did not want to get out of it in the morning...
It's funny, I was waking up at 5:30am every day in Australia (Perth is same time as Singapore) even though I'm not a morning person. On the first day here at Pullman Bunker Bay, I made the mistake of lying back just for a while, and the bed pulled me into such a deep sleep! Heck, I want this kind of sorcery at home. Just doesn't happen when I wake up early there.
The living area just beyond the bed is absolutely cosy and opens up to an outdoor patio. The whole environment is built for relaxing.
I opened up the kitchen storage and found so many tools, cooking pots, crockery and cutlery. They tucked everything away so neatly.
But my favourite has to be the bathroom. There's a gorgeous free-standing deep bath with lots of natural lighting from the wooden slats.
The bathroom too, has high ceilings; it's so clean and spacious.
Each of the villa's entrances are fairly discreet, and there's plenty of landscaping for privacy. And guess what? The resort wifi even works outdoors!
It does get a little dark at night, as there are no "street lights", but if you really need help getting around, the resort has buggies.
Some of the resort bungalows are perched right at the edge of a lake.
A bridge from the lake connects to a path leading to the sea.
The path at sunset is ethereal and otherworldly, with hues of gold and orange dappling the woods.
There are spots of green lawn where you can have events and weddings, or even just a BBQ!
Over in the main lobby, there are spaces to chill and relax.
There's "The Bar" too, where you can enjoy a bite throughout the day, or a pre-dinner drink around the open fire.
Dinner was at the resort's "Other Side of the Moon" - the impressive ocean-view restaurant, bistro and bar - named after one of the famous surf breaks nearby.
The fare is distinctly modern Australian, underpinned by Mediterranean influences. Executive Chef Nathan Flannery and his team focus on using fresh and local produce.
Char Grilled Fremantle Yellowfin Tuna
The tuna is really fresh, but you can still see sinews in some parts. The grilled vegetables were a treat.
Seared Snapper with Carnarvon Asparagus and Roasted Cherry Truss Tomatoes
This was amazing, and surprisingly, it was the little dollops of intensely flavoured pesto that lifted the fish.
Black Brook Angus Tenderloin with Sauce Soubise
This was just a little too rare for my liking. I do like Australian beef but I normally would not go for beef in Australia itself; somehow their better stock seems to all go overseas.
Tiramisu Cappuccino with Chocolate Mouse and Hazelnut Foam
We had a few desserts, but this one stood out the most. Even the cup is made of chocolate. Plus the ice cream and crunchy candied hazelnuts, coffee jelly? Divine.
Lemon and Lime Layered Tart with Berry Coulis
I can see all my lemon dessert friends salivating already...
At dinner we had the company of the ebullient Gavin Cahill of Fermoy Estate winery who showed us some of the award-winning wines - see previous post on Margaret River (yeah we did almost all of that before dinner). Many award-winning wineries are nearby.
Other Side of the Moon looks rather different in the daytime.
Again, the poolside and ocean view on the al fresco terrace - what a great backdrop for breakfast! Get your Vitamin D from the sunshine too!
My favourite bowl here - insanely delicious granola with roasted macadamia nuts.
Healthy food tastes good in Australia - help yourself to the homemade yoghurt! Hey, you can make some yourself too. I did a story on that.
It's a simple but satisfying breakfast. The poppy seed muffins are awesome, especially when fresh out of the oven.
The resort sits on 35 acres of landscaped gardens and the gorgeous beach. It must be lovely walking and hiking there. If you prefer, there are two tennis courts available, and a gym facing the pool.
Whale watching tours are very popular; the resort can arrange these.
If you're hankering for a massage or facial after the hiking and beachcombing, Vie Spa located onsite has six treatment suites and two couples suites.
Open seven days, services available at the day spa include facial and eye treatments, waxing and tinting, hand and foot treatments, body and water therapies, a choice of massage treatments and special Vie Spa Rituals.
