Hey, did you know honestbee does food delivery (on their app) too? The company has just turned two and are celebrating with a promo that's possibly the best food deal in Singapore that I've seen from food delivery services.
This "Good Things Come In Twos" promo has three prongs:
1. All users can enjoy 1-for-1 Food deals from now until 30 July 2017. There's no minimum spend. You buy one item, they'll deliver!
2. New users of honestbee get an additional $18 off the 1-for-1 Food deals - use the code "CAMEMBERU". There's a minimum spend of $25 for this.
3. honestbee is still offering FREE DELIVERY!
High delivery charges are one reason I shy away from ordering food online. I was asking honestbee how much their charges were, and how it works if you order from more than one place. "Delivery fee? There's NONE!"
I was flabbergasted, but utterly thrilled. Why did I not know about this earlier?
The delivery zones have also increased in the past five months. Serviceable areas include: the CBD, Orchard, Bugis, Bukit Merah, River Valley, Kallang, Katong, Novena, Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Bedok, Bukit Timah, Upper Paya Lebar, Tampines, Hougang, Serangoon, Punggol, Sengkang, Hougang, Clementi and Jurong East.
If your zone is in any of these areas, you have to check out Good Things Come In Twos! The 1-for-1 Food deals is really good for couples, groups or families, especially if you have kids who eat a lot, like mine!
There are more than 50 choices for the promotion. Here are the ones I tried:
I picked these pastas from Pizzeria L’Operetta (it's two pastas for S$24):
Peperoncino (left): this is spaghetti dressed simply with extra virgin olive oil, chilli and garlic. I had to try this because I still remember a spectacular Peperoncino olive oil from 10 years ago at a Japanese-Italian restaurant in Kyoto. This version is not so spicy, so it's good for kids or adults who can't take chili heat.
Spaghetti al Pesto Genovese (right): the spaghetti comes well-coated with a basil pesto sauce and is accentuated with savoury chunks of grilled chicken and cherry tomatoes. If you prefer stronger flavours, this one is better than the peperoncino.
I also ordered from PerBacco because the pastas sounded amazing:
"Carnaroli" Risotto Cooked in Amarone Wine, Pan Seared Foie Gras And Caramelized Onion (S$19, left): well, this is a rice dish but hey, it's got foie gras and a really generous slice too. If you like red wine, this one will certainly tickle your fancy!
Fresh Pappardelle with Braised Shredded Lamb And Shaved Parmesan Cheese (S$16, right): Oh heavenly braised lamb amidst billowy sheets of pappardelle! This turned out to be the best pasta dish of the four because of the lamb and the sauce brought amazing umami notes balanced with a suitable hint of tang from tomatoes. I'd have this again, two portions next time!
For a meat, I picked the Crispy Chicken (S$16)from The Twenty Cavan.I had expected only the fried chicken but it came with a spinach-tomato-alfafa salad and thick cut fries as well! The serving is huge, and this is enough for a meal on its own. Two boxes for $16? You won't have to share!
The chicken arrived on a very rainy day, so I toasted them and the fries to make them crispy again.
There are many other choices for chicken including a whole tandoori chicken from Barrels; chicken wraps from Sprout; Gin Khao's Gai Tod Had Yai; and Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh's signature prawn paste chicken wings.
There are a lot of desserts to choose from: cakes, waffles, beancurd, pudding, jelly, chocolate, banana fritters, ice cream and even The Frosted Chick's cupcakes.
But I chose to go healthy with the smoothie bowls (S$8) from Seed & Soil. These are topped with seasonal fruits, coconut flakes and their signature Superfood Sprinkle, which is a protein, fiber, and Omega-3 rich blend of homemade Rawnola (Oats, Dates & Coconut), Pumpkin Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Sesame Seeds, Goji Berry, Cashew, Cacao Nibs and Buckwheat.
Top row: Green Glow and Morning Glory
Bottom row: Pitaya Sunrise and Tropical Bliss
I like that these are not too sweet and packed with alkalising greens, vitamin C, vitamins B (from chia seeds), fiber and potassium (from bananas). And these guilt-free desserts are so pretty to look at while you eat. With the 1-for-1, these bowls are just S$4 each!
It's quite amazing to see honestbee's growth. They officially launched in July 2015 with Groceries as their core business, providing concierge and delivery service in Singapore. In a short span of two years, they have expanded to eight different cities in Asia and now include laundry and food delivery. Their crew of bees must be so busy!
To sum it up, this second year anniversary promo is about:
- 1-for-1 food
- S$18 off the 1-for-1 deals (new users only, min spend S$25): use the code CAMEMBERU
- free delivery!
To enjoy the deals, simply launch the honestbee app, go to the Food section, and click "1-for-1 Birthday Specials” under Top Categories to see which of these restaurants deliver to you. If you can't see the "1-for-1" button, it means your area is not within the delivery zone.
These are such good value deals, I think I'm going to go for some of these myself. I've got a hungry family to feed!
