Hmm, this is one of those places that you want to tell everyone about but also want to keep as a hidden gem. The Clifford Pier in its current iteration as The Fullerton Bay Hotel's dining destination is gorgeously stunning and yet comfortably informal enough to relax in.
On weekends, they have a dinner buffet offering thoughtfully curated local specialties. The dishes don't change much, and I'm glad for that, because they are well-chosen indeed.
Take a look in this video at the ambience and the food.
I'm not usually affected by a restaurant's decor and prefer fabulous food over ambience anytime. But even I have to say the elegant and spacious surroundings really made dining here much more pleasurable.
There are several stations discreetly laid out along the parameter. The highlights include a chicken rice station, where you can plate your own dish of pandan ginger rice with steamed chicken, roast duck, char siew and various condiments.
The crispy roast pork belly is excellent. There's also a giant whole steamed seabass in ginger soy sauce.
Make sure you get to the satay fast, cos it disappears quickly! Next to it is some Malay-style kambing soup too.
Even though the buffet focuses on local specialties, they do have a generous hunk of Herb Marinated Roasted Rib Eye (with Natural Jus & Yorkshire Pudding) for those who just need that one Western roast.
Seafood lovers are not forgotten - there are oysters freshly shucked, smoked salmon, scallops and prawns.
Have them with condiments like Lemon Wedges, Hot Sauce, Tabasco, Red Wine Mignonette, and Cocktail Sauce.
There's a DIY Rojak station with a lot of fruit and vegetable choices.
There are four pre-mixed salads:
- Potato Salad with Bacon and Chive
- Baby Octopus Salad with Sesame Seed and Scallion
- Sichuan Style Sesame Chicken Salad
- Glass Noodles Salad with Seafood, Tomato and Spicy Dressing
And there's a "TCP Salad Garden" where you can customise your own using these ingredients: Heirloom Tomato, Assortment of Garden Green, Endive, Spinach, Arugula, Frisse, Butter Head, Romaine
Crouton, Semi Dried Tomato, Olives, Fresh Steam Vegetable, and Parmesan Cheese.
They didn't miss out the cheese; it's a small but satisfying selection. The blue cheese is particularly good.
There are hot Asian mains like
- this amazing Kong Bak braised pork belly with steamed buns
- Wok Fried Broccoli with Bailing Mushroom (vegetarian)
- Nasi Kampung with Ikan Bilis and Chili Padi
- Peranakan Chicken and Potato Curry
- Tauhu Goreng
- Spicy Sambal Sautéed Prawns
My platter of meaty mains!
It was the eve of Nadine's and her dad's birthdays, so we got cake! They were very kind to make personalised rainbow cakes. There are some really nice desserts too, including an ice cream cart - check those out in the video.
Adding to the evening's charm was the live entertainment. The singer was very popular with children who must have thought she looked like a princess.
There are cocktails you can order separately; this is their signature Kumquat Mojito which replaces lime with cute little golden kumquats.
But the highlight of Clifford Pier is the al fresco desk which is one of the best places to view not only the Marina Bay skyline but the National Day Parade fireworks happening just across the bay.
The Heritage Weekend Buffet Dinner is a steal at only S$58++ per adult and S$29++ per child (aged 6-11). It's available from 6:30pm to 10:30pm on Saturdays, Sundays and certain public holidays.
