The Fairmont Jakarta is fairly new; this luxurious five-star hotel opened in Jan 2015. The location in Senayan makes it close to the Indonesian Stock Exchange, Jakarta Convention Center and malls like Plaza Senayan and Sentral Senayan office towers.
We got to tour the 488-room hotel and its sister property the Raffles Jakarta, both new luxury additions to the Accor Group stable of hotels. The Fairmont was hosting chefs and a mixologist from the Savoy London (also a sister hotel) for "When Jakarta Meets London" series of culinary events.
The Fairmont Jakarta hotel lobby is among the biggest in town, with a stunningly high ceiling, polished floors and pillars anchoring the elegant and contemporary look.
The lobby foyer also carries a bright citrusy scent with an aquatic accent in the morning, and changes that to a woody oriental scent featuring lemon, armoise and rosemary in the evening.
My own room was a lovely and spacious haven. I love the comfort of the Fairmont signature bedding: plush pillow-top mattress, down-filled duvet and feather pillows. Take a look at the video tour:
We also got to see the other rooms. The rooms here range from 49sqm to 303sqm for the Presidential Suite.
All of them are decorated so elegantly, combining international contemporary and traditional Indonesian elements.
The Sky Suites offer serviced apartment-style living with full amenities of a kitchen and living area. There are one and two bedroom configurations.
The most impressive room of course is the Presidential Suite. Here's the private lift lobby with chandelier and exquisite artwork.
The living area is suitably spacious and tastefully decorated. Here and around the hotel, you'll see quite a collection of art pieces from Japanese artists, as the Fairmont Jakarta was built by a joint venture between the Indonesian government and a Japanese construction company.
The bedroom just wows you the minute you see it. And of course it has its own spacious walk-in closet at the side. How I wish I could live here.
And then your jaw will drop even lower upon seeing the bathroom. You can't help but marvel at the spacious walk-in shower stall, deep soaker tub, marble double vanity and large mirrors. I swear this bathroom is bigger than my living room. I could live here.
There's even a private study should you need to attend to presidential duties. The masculinity of the dark wood furniture is offset by cream coloured chair and a cosy sofa in the other corner.
And to relax, you have your own private treatment room with a treadmill and a massage table.
The Gold Lounge on the 21st floor is where you'll enjoy the discreet and attentive Fairmont Gold service and privileges.
It's got killer views of the city and these are unusually green vistas for Jakarta.
You can have breakfast, tea or a light dinner here with evening hors d'oeuvres. But if you want variety, head down to Spectrum, the all-day dining restaurant.
We had a buffet lunch here, and it was pretty impressive.
It's multi-cultural cuisine here with culinary theatres and an extensive buffet spread. The soup noodles are particularly good; we had them every single day!
If you love afternoon tea, you'll probably enjoy the Peacock Lounge.
We were honoured to have the Savoy's pastry chef Luc Bigeard make us a British-style afternoon tea.
Looks too good to be eaten. The scones were particularly good! As full as we were, we had a second helping of those. These tiered drawers are familiar to us; they are similar to the ones used at Anti:dote in Fairmont Singapore.
You can choose to have dinner at any of the nine F&B establishments at Fairmont Jakarta. We tried the Sapori Deli which combines a deli, barista, gourmet retail, bakery and Italian restaurant. It's casual dining in bright and cheery environs. We even saw a birthday party being held.
The food is more than decent. Each course was palatable, and I particularly enjoyed the creamy tagliatelle with morels.
We wrapped up the evening at Barong Bar which delivers classic cocktails in a dramatically dark space. It feels like retreating to a cocoon, a cosy haven...indeed a cavern!
Guest mixologist Witek Wojaczek made us signature cocktails from the legendary Beaufort Bar at the Savoy London (voted best bar in the world).
See those snacks? These are the best bar snacks ever, hands down. Rempenyek (left in pic) or peanut and lentil studded crackers or fritters cleverly enhanced with chives and I think white bait. If they start selling this, I will start flying to Jakarta to buy them in bulk.
Witek enthralled us not only with the drinks but the stories behind each of them.
The key event of the trip would be the Exquisite British Gourmet Dinner at the View Restaurant and Bar. The Savoy's own Executive Sous Chef Francisco Hernandez would present a five-course wine pairing dinner showing signature recipes from the Savoy London. That one deserves a separate post on its own, so watch out for it soon!
