We got a chance recently to take a peek at Raffles Jakarta which opened in 2015.
The interiors of the Raffles Jakarta are an homage to Indonesian artist Hendra Gunawan's dramatic art. Property tycoon Mr Ciputra, who owns the Raffles Jakarta building, is an avid collector of Hendra's works and was the one who decided to fill the hotel with his paintings.
Mr Ciputra not only met Hendra but provided him a place to paint after he spent 13 years in prison under the Suharto regime for suspected communist cultural activities. Hendra’s paintings have recently fetched millions of dollars at international auction houses.
Rooms and Suites
The rooms are mostly suite-like here. There is a bedroom, a separate living space and bathroom.
The 173 luxurious rooms and suites are some of the largest in Jakarta. I think the artwork with the bold colours fits big rooms well.
It still looks really classy and peaceful.
Presidential Suite
The Raffles Suite is one of the largest in the city at 390 square meters. This presidential suite has two bedrooms with its own private gym, private spa room, steam room, unique shower experience feature, a grand piano and a private den. Floor to ceiling windows enable lots of natural light and sweeping views of the city.
The bedroom upfront can be used by bodyguards.
This can be used for dining or conference purposes.
The main bedroom is huge and has a separate walk-in wardrobe that's almost as large.
The all-marble bathroom is just stunning. A separate walk-in shower and deep soaking bathtub is just around the corner from this, and links to the walk-in wardrobe.
Raffles Spa
The Raffles Spa gave me one of the best massages I've had in years. The staff are very professional!
Apart from six treatment rooms, there are hydrotherapy experiences and steam facilities. Separate male and female relaxation areas allow more freedom and ease.
Arts Cafe: Raffles Brunch
The Raffles hotel group is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year. The Arts Cafe is offering a special brunch that features on rotation signature dishes from other Raffles Hotels. From Singapore, we have a charcoal mantou bun in chili crab gravy!
The brunch itself is huge with so much food!
Meetings, Weddings, Conventions
The convention facilities are simply huge here. Raffles Jakarta is also popular for weddings, which are often larger than life and super glamorous here.
Ciputra Museum
Right outside the hotel at the connected mall is the Ciputra Museum. It's an homage to Hendra Gunawan and features some really interesting artwork in its gallery.
This huge piece drew oohs and aahs when the room went dark. Hidden behind the faces were unexpected symbols and imagery that spoke volumes.
Raffles Jakarta is more contemporary than Raffles Singapore. It may not be as high end, and is more suited for business travellers, but they focus just as much on personalised butler services and culinary excellence. I love the rooms and would love to come back to have a stay to get the full experience.
