Ohhhh the aroma and taste of buttery good Japanese beef. Wagyu waiting for? Haha. By the way, the salmon is actually vegan. The taste and texture is pretty close, just a bit more jelly-like. I think I tried it too at the Oscar's buffet downstairs in a mock salmon poké.
Other highlights on the Golden Peony Lunar New Year menu include:
Prosperity Pen Cai - abalone, lobster, sea cucumber, fish maw, whole conpoy, roast pork, homemade meatball, dried oyster, black moss, scallop, chinese mushroom and cabbage. All lovingly stewed to the right texture.
Stewed Lamb Rack with Saffron, Codonopsis, and Cumin: definitely a departure from your usual CNY dishes, but the strong lamb richly braised was like an exotic trip.
Abalone Ingot Pastry: Sliced Abalone rolled with Asparagus.
Usher in a prosperous year with a gold-topped mini abalone perched on top of baked pastry!
Every year they do a take on the full roasted suckling pig. This year it's seafood saffron rice and lobster otah in the centre, if I remember correctly.
Oh the crunch of the skin as the cleaver cuts right through.
Decadent crispy suckling pig skin stuffed with rice infused with seafood goodness. Yes, you will be very full and satisfied.
For dessert, the palate cleansing Chilled Pineapple Jelly is a treat. The jelly with mixed fruit topped with a jellied grape is served in a sweet carved pineapple, so you may be tempted to dig into more bromelain (the protein-digesting enzyme will help with all the meats above). A little piece of nian gao sandwiched between yam and sweet potato adds to the lunar festive feel.
Other festive offerings range from Baked Spare Ribs with Red Glutinous sauce to Steamed Sliced Giant Grouper, topped with a secret Capsicum and Preserved Chili Sauce.
